Yet Another Church Shooting! Are YOU Prepared?

First off, remember that we’re ON for our regular Saturday study this Saturday from 0900-1000+ at Calvary Chapel South Denver in Littleton . Go to http://www.calvarycsd.org/ for directions. The Centurion Ministry (TCM) has our latest announcement on that site as well.

Hope you are all weathering the “dog days” of Summer. We are just cooking here in Denver – way too hot and well above normal for this part of the country. I’m ready for Fall. I hope to escape into the high country for a bit this weekend. After a very busy July this will be my first full weekend off and I’m looking forward to it.

I’d like to escape from the upcoming DNC as well but that is not likely to happen. Please pray for our DPD colleagues who are working long hours (and will be working much longer ones during the week-long convention). While you’re at it, pray for our country and its leadership. I truly fear for our nation’s safety if the most liberal candidate in history is elected. I URGE all of you to vote and to vote intelligently. Take a hard look at the candidates through a Biblical lens and pray for guidance in your choices.

As most of you are/should be aware, there was another church shooting last week (see http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,391786,00.html).
What are you doing for your church (you SHOULD be attending a solid Bible-teaching church) in terms of protection plans? Are you at least carrying your weapon to services? We can’t protect our families or others without the right tools, folks. Facts are that American churches are prime targets for disgruntled spouses, the mentally unstable, terrorists, and more. The "sheep" will continue to believe they live in “Mayberry” but we, as "sheepdogs," must remain vigilant against “wolves” that would seek to prey on those we’ve sworn to protect. As I have previously taught, God does NOT prohibit us (Christian peace officers) from protecting ourselves or others. On the contrary, the Bible clearly teaches that it is our DUTY to so. Huh? Doesn’t that contradict the whole “turn the other cheek” teaching? I would strongly argue that it does not. Join us tomorrow morning and I’ll fill you in.

PRAYER REQUESTS
(as always, send me your prayer requests and I’ll post them here as appropriate):

(1) I’ve been advised that Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Vicky Zornes “passed away” this past Sunday for “unknown” reasons. I was also informed that she had been depressed of late. I don’t know any more than that right now and perhaps that is best. I can make a very educated guess. Folks, this is a HUGE part of what this ministry is all about. Please pray for her family and those she worked with and PLEASE be “salt and light” to your fellow officers. We can and should be preventing this sort of thing. The uniform and badge does not heal all wounds (I would argue to the contrary) and we are as much flesh and blood as anyone.
(2) Please continue to pray for Trooper Scott Hinshaw. Scotty is still in a great deal of pain and has more surgery ahead of him. I hope to visit with him next week. While we’re at it, we should be fighting for better benefits and help for our wounded warriors both domestic and abroad. Why is it that if we are killed in the line of duty our families get well-earned support while so many who are hurt on the job only get partial pay and benefits? Sad indeed and no excuse for it.
(3) Pray for the young daughter (Shelby) of DOR Criminal Investigator Joe Kelley. She has a serious kidney infection and may be facing surgery.
(4) Pray for this ministry as I/we seek to reach others in our profession for Christ.

Hope to see my locals at the Bible study tomorrow. Regardless, please pass this newsletter on to others on your email contact lists as well as your colleagues at work.
